We offer three program options for dog training:

  • Polite Puppy Program – If your pup is younger than eight months old, this Pittsburgh dog obedience training program is the perfect way to get them familiar with the basics. Our Polite Puppy program is 10 days long and gives your little furry friend an opportunity to learn basic skills they need to thrive and how to socialize in a day care setting.
  • 10-Day Basic Adult Program – Our basic adult program is available for dogs who are eight months and older. Since older dogs can handle longer training periods, they will spend 10 days training one-on-one with our trainer.
  • 20-Day Advanced Adult Program – Looking for a more advanced training option? This program is your best bet. It’s a 4-week course that’s available to dogs over eight months old. Results are the priority, and the program is designed to deliver the most consistent training. For this reason, the program is customizable to your pup’s abilities and needs.

How Does Dog or Puppy Training Work?

Puppy training is designed to promote relationship building by bridging the communication gap between you and your dog. At Pet Palace, we use positive reinforcement to accomplish this, which works by rewarding the dog when good behavior is accomplished and withholding rewards when the behavior does not match the intended result.

The purpose of enrolling your dog in obedience training is to teach your pup about the different behaviors and commands that are acceptable both inside and outside of your house. The training process can begin at any age, whether your dog is a puppy or an adult. It’s important to remember that puppies especially aren’t perfect, so be gracious and patient while they’re learning. And remember that if they don’t get it right the first time it’s ok, because they’re still a work in progress and consistent puppy training can help them hone their skills.

Some of the lessons that are taught during our dog obedience training include:

  • Potty training
  • Resource guarding
  • Intro to sounds
  • Intro to touch
  • Toy play
  • Intro to people
  • Bite inhibition
  • Crate training
  • Nutrition
  • Behavior techniques
  • Basic commands
  • Leash skills

What Are the Benefits of Enrolling Your Pup in Our Pittsburgh Obedience Program?

Regardless of your dog’s age or breed, enrolling them in a dog training program is advantageous because it offers the following:

  • Safety – When your pet knows your cues and commands, it’s easier for them to be protected from potentially harmful situations involving other dogs, animals, or humans.
  • Sociability – Dog training gives your pup boundaries and teaches them how to behave in social settings. This leads to an easier everyday life for dogs and owners alike!
  • Independence – Make your dog more independent by teaching them skills that lead to better decision-making and solutions to problems.
