Our Dog Training Services

We currently offer the following dog training services in Pittsburgh, Columbus, Cary, and West Chester:

  • Polite Puppy Program – The polite puppy program is a 10-day course that is available to puppies eight months and younger. This puppy training program gives your pup the opportunity to learn basic obedience skills while also learning to socialize in a daycare setting.
  • 10-Day Basic Adult Program – The basic adult program is a 10-day course and is available to dogs eight months and older. Dog training sessions can be longer for adult dogs, so they will spend each day doing one-on-one training with their trainer for the best results.
  • 20-Day Advanced Adult Program – This program is a 4-week course available to dogs over eight months. This is a results-driven program, designed to give participants the most consistent training, and is more customizable.

Meet Our Dog Trainers

“Hi, my name is Brandis Fishel. I have been a part of the Pet Palace family since 2012. In my free time, I love to play volleyball and hit the trails with my dog, Rowen. My favorite work to do with dogs is confidence training. I love seeing shy, timid dogs transform into confident, happy pups like my boy Rowen did years ago, when he showed up at Pet Palace as a stray.”

“Hi, my name is Samantha, and my dog training journey started when I was a little girl but flourished when I got my first dog Moonee during the pandemic whom I trained to be my Cardiac Alert Service dog! My favorite part is watching a dog problem solve and helping pet parents understand their beloved fur baby’s behavior. I am so excited to embark on this journey with Pet Palace and can’t wait to meet you and your four-legged friend!”

“Hello, my name is Jake. I got started in my life of dog training growing up in rural Nebraska with a half Australian shepherd half border collie that lived to herd horses and occasionally cattle. My goal as a trainer is to improve quality of life, comfort, and happiness with both dogs and their owners. I love teaching dogs and humans how to better communicate with each other so that everyone can get what they want and/or express what they want without creating frustration and stress within the family.”

“Hi, my name is Jeremy. I’ve been training dogs for almost 6 years and fell in love with it ever since I began my training journey with my personal dog Jo-Jo. Learning to train him with the help of my friends has been a highlight of my life. My favorite dogs to work with are the shy, timid pups. It’s so rewarding for me to see a dog learn to be confident after working with them to give them a better quality of life.”

What Is Puppy Training?

Puppies are learning all the time which can be overwhelming for both the pup owner and the pup themselves. There are a lot of components that make up puppy training, but the two most prominent ones are relationship building and the creation of a structure.

The training process can begin at any age, whether your pup is new to the world or an adult. The purpose of puppy training classes is to provide the pup with a variety of behaviors and commands that are acceptable both inside and outside of the home. Remember, puppies aren’t perfect, so it pays to be patient. There might be moments where they act out, but that is normal. These unwanted behaviors will occur less and less with the help of puppy training.

Some of the lessons given during puppy training include:

  • Potty training
  • Resource guarding
  • Intro to sounds
  • Intro to touch
  • Toy play
  • Intro to people
  • Bite inhibition
  • Crate training
  • Nutrition
  • Behavioral techniques
  • Basic commands
  • Leash skills

Our goal when training is to bridge the communication gap between the dog and the owner through positive reinforcement. This means rewarding them when good behavior is accomplished and withholding attention and rewards when their behavior is less than favorable.

The Benefits of Dog Training Classes

Regardless of the age or breed, dog training can truly benefit your pup. With our dog training services, you’ll gain advantages that include:

  • Safety – With your pet listening to your cues, you can protect them in potential conflicts with other dogs, animals, or worrisome situations. Additionally, in the event that they become unrestrained, they’ll more likely listen and not flee.
  • Confidence – With positive reinforcement, your dog will be more open to new experiences. This training allows them to make good decisions and better engage with you, all while a more rewarding experience is created for all.
  • Sociability – Dog training creates positive experiences for your dog. It allows them to learn boundaries and how to behave in social settings, giving them a better quality of life and making everything easier for owners!
  • Strengthened bond – With consistent dog or puppy training services, you’ll create a sense of trust and cooperation. This allows your dog to be more responsive to you, ultimately strengthening your relationship.
  • Independence – Your dog can become more independent by learning skills and how to make good choices. Training pushes your dog to think independently and figure out solutions to situations.

Dog training is beneficial to all dogs and owners, giving you peace of mind that your dog can have the healthiest and safest life possible.

FAQs on Dog Training Services

If you’re looking to reap these benefits above and start building that bond with your dog, you’ve come to the perfect place. To help you get started, we’ve compiled some of the common questions we get regarding puppy training classes along with our answers.

When should I start dog training?

Ideally, as early as possible. While puppy training services can help establish good habits early on, any dog can benefit regardless of age!

In dog training classes, what methods may be used?

Within our dog training services, there are a variety of methods that may be used by professional trainers or instructors. Some common dog training methods include:

  • Clicker training – This involves the use of a small device that makes a distinct clicking sound. The click signals to the dog when they have performed the desired behavior and it’s typically followed by a reward. The click helps with precise timing for dog training.
  • Positive reinforcement training – This popular and recommended method involves rewarding dogs with treats, praise, or toys when they exhibit desired behaviors.
  • Marker training – This training option uses a verbal marker, such as saying yes or no, to signify when a dog has done something right. The marker is then followed by a reward.
  • Model-rival training – In this method for puppy training services, a trainer uses another dog or person as a model to demonstrate desired behaviors. Dogs typically learn by mimicking and observing others.

The list goes on as there are various methods available, and these methods can vary as each dog has different preferences and needs.
